Researchers Harness Quantum Entangled Beams of Light for Secure Information Enco
ideabooster 2023. 6. 7. 16:51Researchers from the University of Oklahoma have made significant strides in the field of secure information transmission by utilizing spatial correlations in quantum entangled beams of light. Their study, published in Science Advances, explores the challenges of encoding and safeguarding large amounts of data in light for secure communication purposes.
Led by Alberto Marino and doctoral student Gaurav Nirala, the team aimed to encode information in light using the spatial properties of the beams. By combining spatial patterns known as modes and leveraging the correlations between them, the researchers devised a novel approach to encoding information that aligns with the requirements of quantum networks.
The study employed two entangled beams of light, whose interconnectedness exceeded that of classical light. Despite spatial separation, the beams remained correlated. The advantage of this approach lies in the fact that the encoded information cannot be recovered unless joint measurements of both entangled beams are conducted. This characteristic makes it highly suitable for secure communication, as extracting information from a single beam alone is impossible.
The researchers successfully demonstrated the encoding and retrieval of information in the quantum-entangled light beams through a series of images and correlation measurements. Only when the two beams were combined as intended did the information manifest as recognizable images.
This research opens new possibilities for securely encoding and transmitting substantial amounts of information using the spatial properties of light. By capitalizing on the correlations between spatial modes, information can be encoded in a manner that ensures privacy and integrity.
Marino expressed the significance of using spatial correlations as a new approach to information encoding. He explained that this method could enable the secure transmission of extensive data by capitalizing on the spatial properties of light, surpassing the simple on-and-off functionality.
The findings of this study contribute to the advancement of secure communication and high-data rate transmission. As the research progresses, the utilization of spatial correlations in light may revolutionize information encoding techniques.
The research published in Science Advances on June 2, 2023, underscores the potential of quantum entangled beams of light in facilitating secure information encoding and transmission, providing new opportunities for the field of quantum communications.
